Schools Learn to Swim

WHAT WE DO

AUT Millennium is committed to giving the children of our community the opportunity to learn essential swimming skills through our Schools Learn to Swim programme. Our primary focus is to build their confidence and help them learn the skills required to swim to keep them safer in the water.

Our programme operates year-round in our comfortably heated indoor pools and is led by experienced and certified instructors. We accommodate students of all ability levels, from beginner to advanced swimmers, and can even bring our programme to your school’s pool.

PROGRAMME STRUCTURE

The Schools Learn to Swim programme will work with your school to create a programme to suit your needs.

An initial assessment of swimming ability is done during the first lesson, and the children are grouped according to their abilities.

All students are evaluated and receive an achievement certificate at the end of the programme.

  • Primary School lessons are 30 minutes.
  • Intermediate and Secondary School lessons are 30 – 60 minutes.

Along with learning to survive, developing motor skills, and understanding movement in the water, swimming is also a great way to get active. We endorse swimming as a great source of fitness in promoting healthier communities. These key aims are based on the objectives of New Zealand schools’ Physical Education and Health curriculum.
