Running Group

Join AUT Millennium’s community of #FlameRunners on our 400 metre running track no matter where you are on your running journey!

The two weekly sessions are geared towards distance runners (half to full marathon).   You go at your pace and work to your own ability, however the Monday sessions are more suitable for beginner runners.

Monday sessions are the easier session of the week with the focus being more on the “things we don’t do, but should do” with our running – e.g. dynamic stretching, drills, working on our balance, strides etc.

Wednesday is the speedwork session of the week with regular calibration runs (1mile – 5km) so you can see where you’re currently at with your training and also to determine your current pace group for the interval work.

We focus on different goals during the calendar year, however from mid-year we work towards the Auckland Marathon and Half Marathon – a popular end-of-year event for many Auckland runners.  At other times we may be working on improving our 5km or 10km pace for example.

Sessions are held rain or shine.  Remember to wear a watch, bring a water bottle, and warm/dry clothes to warm up in and put on afterwards.  It’s also a good idea to have a little breakfast before you come and if this works for you.  Don’t come if you’re feeling unwell or are injured.  Always listen to your body, work within your capacity and stop if something hurts or doesn’t feel right!

We meet on the AUT Millennium track just inside the main gates, and love to stop for a coffee at the café after!

All sessions are run by Kiri Price, Running Coach (Athletics NZ Accredited Coach), who has more than 20 years of running under her belt and is now a 200 + marathoner.  Kiri has been coaching runners at AUT Millennium since 2010 and is passionate about helping runners on their own running journey.

Attendees are welcome to join our closed AUT Millennium Running Group on Facebook to keep up to date with communications.

Kiri Price

Running Coach

Kiri started the AUT Millennium Running Group in 2010 and has had the pleasure of working with many runners over the years.  She is a passionate marathon runner and was the 11th woman to join the New Zealand 100 Marathon Club in 2015, and the sixth woman to complete 150 marathons in 2018.  Along with being a long-standing club runner, she has also competed in several national road and cross-country events.

Kiri has paced runners in over 70 marathons, with finish times ranging from 3 hours 30 through to over 10 hours, which has given her valuable first-hand experience in what it takes to cross the finish line.

Her passion is working not only with first-time marathon and half marathoners, but also with those who are just starting out, or those who wish to improve upon their performance, no matter their ability. One of her most rewarding coaching experiences was coaching and managing three teams of Achilles (disabled) athletes and their guides through to completion of the New York City Marathon.

Kiri is also the coach of the popular Deep Water Running sessions at the National Aquatic Centre.
