AquatiC Legacy Project

Over the past decade, we’ve welcomed a diverse mix of people through our doors – from children taking part in learn-to-swim lessons, school students attending water safety classes, members attending swim sessions and aquatic classes, to athletes and supporters travelling from across Aotearoa taking part in local and national events.

As part of our commitment to maintaining a safe, high-quality environment for our community, we were undertaking essential and critical infrastructure upgrades across our aquatic facilities.

With improvements to the National Aquatic Centre and Millennium Learn to Swim Pool now complete, the next phase will see the Millennium 50m Pool revitalised with a surface upgrade. A PVC pool liner will be installed providing a smooth clean finish, and a 10+ year lifespan which will enable longer term continuity and access for the community.

The Millennium 50m pool will temporarily close from Monday 28 September 2026 while this essential work takes place.

We have worked hard to keep disruption to a minimum. Throughout the closure, there will be lanes available in the 50m Pool. Limited shallow lane availability will also be available in the NAC Learn to Swim Pool on weekdays at selected times. Millennium 50m Pool

Completed Refurbishments

National Aquatic Centre 50m Pool refurbishment- Completed January 2026

The National Aquatic Centre 50m pool was re-grouted, which enabled the pool to continue operating for the next 10 years without the need to empty and refill the pool multiple times for patched area repairs.

Millennium Small Pool refurbishment – Completed July 2026

The newly refurbished Millennium Small Pool reopened for swimming lessons for our youngest swimmers at the start of Term 3 on Monday 20 July.
